What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is an alternative medicine which focuses on restoring mobility within the body. It takes care of the body holistically. All parts of the body are linked to one another through bones, nerves, muscles and organs. The structure of the body allows movements, actions and to keep a proper posture.

Osteopathy treats posture to have an effect on the body and treats the body to have an effect on the posture.

An osteopath helps the body heal itself by eliminating a blockage through the relaxation of a muscle and/or the restoration of bone mobility.

Osteopathy in History

Andrew T. Still (1828-1917), an American physician and surgeon, was the founder of osteopathy and osteopathic medicine. As his training as a physician didn’t quite match his expectations, he decided to look for a new way to cure. While searching, he discovered that as one starts to relaunch the mobility of a bone or a joint, the latter rediscovers its primary function. Andrew T. Still founded osteopathy in 1874.

Osteopathy first appeared in France during the 1960s thanks to practitioners trained either in the United States or in the United Kingdom.

Who is osteopathy designed for?
